The stopping of leaks is as much an art as a science. BDS’ team of highly skilled workers, managed by professional Engineers with proven expertise in waterproofing, has enabled the company to provide a range of proven waterproofing options using both the latest developments in materials and techniques, and tried and tested traditional methods.

| BDS has proven expertise in different types of structures:
- Residential buildings
- Commercial buildings like office and shopping mall complexes etc.
- Hospitals
- Schools
- Industrial buildings
- Basements
- Infrastructural structures like bridges, tunnels, dams, water containment areas etc.
| | | Waterproofing assemblies are an integral part of the overall building envelope. A thorough evaluation of this envelope is recommended any time there is persistent water entry into the structure. | | | Waterproofing professionals should be proficient in all aspects of exterior waterproofing, and must carry out a proper survey before undertaking the project. We have often been called in on projects where a contactor had completed a major waterproofing assignment, and the next time it rained, there still were leakages all over, because the wrong causes were addressed by the contractor. A thorough waterproofing evaluation could have isolated the water entry sources and saved the client the cost of other unnecessary repairs. | | | Roof Waterproofing A buildings roofing system costs on average around 5 to 10% of the construction cost. However the roofing assembly constitutes an average of nearly 50% of the annual budget for facility maintenance. | | | The roofing and waterproofing assemblies are the single most important component of the building in relation to the preservation and longevity of the facility. The choices for roof systems have grown into a myriad of systems that are now available on today's market. There is no one roofing system available today that is the ideal system for all applications. As a result, though they may realize the importance, most Facility Asset Managers do not realize the intricacy of the roof assembly. | | | At BDS, we are dedicated to helping owner's maintain their roof in a manner that provides the longest possible useful life with lowest possible out of pocket expenses. We are dedicated to the philosophy of repair, rather than replace. | | | General Waterproofing Aside from cracks and crevices in the roofs and walls, and leaking water and waste pipes, water can also penetrate into the concrete and masonry from faulty or deteriorated waterproofing at various junctions: between parapet walls and roofs; chajjas and walls; window-frames and walls, walls and floors in bathrooms and kitchens; etc.
| | | Often, this water ingress goes undetected for quite some time, causing concealed damage inside concrete slab floors and ceilings, as well as in walls. | | | As is often the case, severe corrosion in one apartment or office unit etc. of a building travels through the floor slab of adjoining rooms and enters below into adjoining units ceilings. This is a matter of concern for the safety and long-term structural stability of both units. | | | As part of its surveys, BDS will also analyse all potential areas that can give rise to problems in the future, potentially saving large sums of money for the clients by solving the problem while it is still minor in nature.
BDS uses the best systems available in the market to fulfil the waterproofing requirements of the structure. The selection of the system largely depends on:
- the area of building i.e. roof slab, basement, wet areas, podium slab, external façade, tree planters, water tanks, swimming pools, etc.
- budgeted cost
- durability parameters
- usage, etc.
BDS evaluates all these parameters thoroughly before proposing the appropriate waterproofing system.
The overall costing plays an important role in selecting the waterproofing system in any structure. Hence, if the client’s budgets permit, the specifications for technically superior waterproofing systems can be adopted.
Polyurea technology is emerging as the most robust waterproofing system in India. The high end performance and high expected life of polyurea coatings puts this technology far ahead of other systems. Polyurea coatings can be effectively used for almost all kinds of structures from the positive side. BDS has trained engineers and applicators who fully understand this technology and the requisite plural component reactor for carrying such assignments.
Commonly Used Materials for Waterproofing At BDS the materials required for waterproofing are selected very carefully, depending upon the specific need, cost and usage. Aside from conventional systems, the most common materials handled by BDS are:
- Crystalline
- Cementitious polymer modified coatings
- APP bitumen sheet membranes
- Cold applied bitumen emulsions
- Coal tar based epoxy coatings
- Water-thinnable epoxy coatings
- Acrylic polymer
- Joint sealants
- PU coatings
- Polyurea coatings
- EPDM membranes
- Injection grouting systems such as cement based, PU based (foam type), epoxy resin based, etc.
