    Primary and Secondary Containment

BDS uses Nukote polymers for primary and secondary containment applications as they are an outstanding solution due to their many unique properties like tensile strength, elongation, and resistance to tears, punctures and chemicals.

When used as a primary or secondary containment solution, Nukote polymers can be applied to steel, concrete, wood, fibreglass and other substrates, or applied to geotextile fabrics and meshes, creating a seamless membrane for use in applications direct onto compacted soils.

Concrete Applications

BDS has used Nukote polymers as the ideal choice for coating over concrete. The polymers are hydrophobic and will not react with the moisture present in concrete that causes pin holing or blisters with traditional products. The Nukote range also includes unique primers that penetrate and seal concrete surfaces, reducing potential pinholes and blistering. These primers also seal spalls and other irregularities, reducing the quantity of polymer coating required to form a seamless membrane.

Geotextile Fabric Applications

Nukote has developed the use of the polyurea-geotextile fabric composites. Unique geotextile fabrics combined with Nukote polyureas form a seamless reinforced membrane composite, increasing tear, puncture and tensile properties. This system outperforms concrete retention structures and common seamed membranes and is ideal for large primary or secondary containment projects including:

  • man-made lakes and canals
  • leach ponds
  • landfills
  • drainage basins
  • tank farm burms
  • nuclear waste containment

and many other applications. The composite system is cost effective and durable and can be applied directly to compacted soils.

Steel Applications

Steel tanks or basins are common primary containment structures for large cooling systems used by power generation or manufacturing plants. Nukote polymers provide the required waterproofing and anti-corrosion properties with minimum downtime, virtually no secondary maintenance, and no contamination to the system caused by solvents and other volatile organic content (VOC) content found in traditional coatings

Nukote polymers provide superior erosion resistance, regardless of substrate. This is a significant benefit in applications where agitators, high-solid content and other abrasion factors are present.

High Corrosion and Temperatures

Nukote Metalshield is the best option for primary containment applications where corrosion, erosion and temperature characteristics are ultra high.
